He is Kobe Bryant

The Black Mamba, Mr. Laker, the Greatest of All Time. These are only a few names that refer to Kobe Bean Bryant, a kid from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the professional basketball player that recently announced that he will retire at the end of the 2015-2016 season.

But what a career he has had. Five-time NBA Champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, 2008 MVP, 17-time All Star and four time All Star Game MVP. He has certainly proved that he is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all time. Sure he has had his troubles, like refusing to sign with Charlotte or his issues with fellow superstar Shaquille O’Neal. But he has rebounded for all of them and maintained his status as a constant success.

He is absolutely the greatest player of my generation. LeBron James is the best right now, but Bryant’s career has spanned my entire life. He debuted the year after I was born and on the day of his retirement I will be 20 years old. That is a long time to play the game, longer than most players last. But time has finally caught up and Kobe sees the light at the end of his tunnel. He should get a heroes send off from the league because he has represented the league, through the good and the bad. He has been a staple of professional basketball and has even represented his country in basketball.

Whatever some may think of Kobe Bryant the man, all must respect Kobe Bryant the player. He is and will always be one the best to grace a court.

Who knows what he will do after his career? Maybe he’ll take the Cleveland Indians offer to play baseball, he’d be a great ball player. Just saying.

NBA Predictions

The NBA season begins tomorrow night, so it’s time for me to give my NBA predictions. I will give my predictions for the divisions, championship and MVP.

Atlantic Division – Toronto Raptors

This will be one of the worst divisions in the NBA. The Raptors don’t win because of how good they are, but because of how bad everyone else is. I like Kyle Lowry’s game, as well as those of Terrence Ross, DeMar DeRozan and DeMarre Carroll. But they still aren’t that good.

Central Division – Cleveland Cavaliers

This will be one of the best division races. It will come down to the Cavs and the Bulls, but the Cavs have the edge. Their roster is far too stacked to not win, especially since arguably the best Bulls player is constantly hurt. Love, Smith, Shumpert, Irving, and the list goes on and on. Having Lebron helps too.

Southeast Division – Atlanta Hawks

The Heat will provide the most pressure to the Hawks, but most teams will supply some. The depth at guard is what gives Atlanta the edge. They have the perimeter shooting and size down low to win big. But it will be interesting to see what Thabo Sefelosha can do to help them off the bench this year, especially since he intends to sue the NYPD for last years altercation.

Pacific Division – Golden State Warriors

The reigning NBA champions will defend their division crown, but not easily. The re-tooled Clippers will create a challenge and will take the Warriors to their limits throughout the regular season. Steph Curry, reigning MVP, will help a lot while on the floor, as will fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson. The most interesting part of the team is how their size will match up against opposing teams, as they lost David Lee in the offseason.

Southwest Division – Houston Rockets

This one is better than last year. The Rockets will be carried through a division where each team could conceivably win by their high-powered offense. James Harden remains at shooting guard and Ty Lawson has been added at point guard. The presence of Dwight Howard will be felt consistently and the bench is good. They will fight their way to a division title.

Northwest Division – Oklahoma City Thunder

They can definitely do it, especially if they can find an answer at shooting guard. They still have Westbrook and Durant. Ibaka is a solid player at power forward. I have a major sleeper team out if this division though, the Denver Nuggets. They’re pretty good, or at least not that bad. Emmanuel Mudiay is a solid pickup at point guard and they still have The Manimal Kenneth Faried. They could make some noise.

NBA Finals – Cavaliers over Warriors 4-2

They’re just too good. Lebron and Co. will win and finally get Cleveland a title. They are deep, experienced and ready. There is no stopping the Cleveland Cavaliers this year. Sorry Golden State.

MVP – Lebron James

The King will reign again. He will bring a title and bring some hardware. Curry can challenge, and so can Harden, but in the end Lebron will win.

These are my picks, I might be wrong or I might be right. Comment your opinions, we might have something in common. Just saying.

D-Rose has gotten D-Stroyed

When he was drafted, Derrick Rose was considered one of the best point guard prospects in recent memory. He was coming off a solid season at Memphis and was exactly what the Chicago Bulls needed. He was the point guard that the Bulls could run their entire offense through. It worked magically too, at least for awhile.

Then the lockout happened. Nothing has been the same since. Since the lockout season in 2011 he has played in a total 100 games. He is currently 26 years old, but probably has the knees of a man in his 50’s. He seems to be literally be made out of glass and paper mache. The man is an art project. He breaks as often as my sculpture from second grade. And as if that’s not bad enough, he got hurt in the latest Bulls practice. He took an elbow to the face, although the team didn’t seem concerned about it. But no, Derrick Rose does get minor injuries, he only gets the ones that might end his career. This time the elbow broke his orbital bone. In other words, it broke his eye. That’s right, his eye, the thing with which he sees stuff. It’s broken. He will get surgery tomorrow and no one knows when he’ll be back.

It’s reasonable to say that his career is almost over. Many people, including myself, really hope its not. I hope that he makes a full recovery and gets back to an MVP level of play. But that seems almost impossible at this point, especially if he has to worry about busting his knees and guarding his eye. I feel like no one could drive the lane with any confidence if they were worrying about those kinds of injuries. It appears as if Rose is headed towards a sad end to a career that could have been one of the best in NBA history.

Also, he’s apparently being accused of rape. I mean, this guy can’t catch a break. Just saying.
